Primer 01
The following binaries are being extracted out from the disassemblage:.
-Solids & Voids
-Shallowness & depth
-Stability & Instability
-Curvilinear & Rectilinear
-Networking
-Expressed & Concealed
In my opinion, primer 1 has been a great opportunity and platform for me to expand my architectural vocabularies (Lingos). Primer 1 (Part 1) has enabled me to make use of my intuition and creativity to disassemble and assemble mechanical components that I’ve always wanted to break apart. It is a challenge to me to think of the group model as a baseless object such that it can stand upright at any angle. It was certainly an eye-opener to me as the models look differently at every different perspective you choose to look at it. I learned to put my creativity into use as I translate the group A3 sketch into many 21x 21x 21 models of my own. Apart from that, I picked up make Architecture binaries such as:
-Solids and Voids
-Shallowness and Depth
- Stability and Instability
- Curvilinear and Rectilinear
- Networking
-Expressed and Concealed
During the process of model making, I encountered many problems and difficulties. Having to allow two objects to joint perfectly isn’t an easy task. I could explore the different orientations based on my design drivers. Frankly speaking, I encountered many times that my design drivers do not reflect on my model and I have to seek consultation with my lecturers for their opinion.
Not only did I consult the lecturers, I also seek the opinion of my fellow classmates. Thankfully, they are really honest in their responses. It was certainly a great platform and opportunity for me to gather their feedback and practice my communication skills in preparation for the review session at the end of the primer.
I really enjoyed documenting my work as it is like a personal journal to track my progress throughout the whole primer but who would have thought that the other classes have a different way of documenting. In the future, I would include the little details such as design ideas into my documentation. I learned that ‘Pictures speak a thousand words ’- Having sketches and drawings would benefit and allow the audience to comprehend better through my presentation.
On the whole, this assignment helped me realize that I still have a lot to catch up on and I get a better picture of Architecture. During the coming June break, I will continue to read up more on the next Primer and practice my model making and sketching skills. I will be able to witness my improvements through hard work.
